Here are some tips to innovatively use tea tree oil in household chores-

  • Disinfectant:
  • Living in a tropical country like India, we all heavily depend on disinfectants to steer clear of moulds and mildews. Especially if you have furry babies at home, infections are just around the corner waiting for your cleaning routine to falter.

But a homemade disinfectant can never break your trust, especially with TTO in it. Just add half a cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle, fill it with water and add 7-8 drops of oil. Mix it and Voila! You have to yourself a strong yet pretty cheap multipurpose disinfectant. For a little fancy schmancy, add equal drops of lavender oil in it. This concoction can be used to wipe countertops, glass surfaces and even floors.

  • DIY hand sanitizer:
  • Hand sanitizers are a must during changing seasons, every doctor says that. But when you know you would be using it by the box, is it smart not make your own DIY sanitizer?

Mix one part of isopropyl alcohol (also known as rubbing alcohol) with two parts aloe vera gel and five drops of TTO. Give it a nice mix, transfer in a squeeze bottle and bid goodbye to viral infections. TTO’s antiviral qualities are known for killing E.Coli and H.Influenzae viruses- number one reason for infections. This mix will not only protect you, but also keep your skin soft. Win win!

  • Deodorizer:
  • Aside from being a super strong antifungal, tea tree oil also has a refreshing smell. Just a few drops of oil on a cotton ball kept in places can help in airing out old suitcases, nooks and crannies of your cupboards and keeping shoe/gym compartment smelling fresh.

You can add a few drops of TTO and lavender oil in a spray bottle for a handy air freshener. Similarly, it can be diffused in an oil diffuser for a more lasting effect. It can even hide strong cooking odours!

  • Laundry freshener:
  • This is a neat trick especially if there are senior citizens and children at your house who are twice as susceptible to viral infections. Here, the antifungal and antiviral properties of TTO come to play. Without any recipe, you can just add a teaspoon of oil with washing powder in each wash for an all-rounder clean batch of laundry.

You might not even need a fabric softener later on because of such nice smelling laundry!

  • Pest controller:
  • Bugs and mosquitoes are excellent carriers of infections. Fortunately, they are repelled with the strong smell of tea tree oil. A strong concoction of oil and water sprayed over plants can significantly reduce insects and mosquitoes.

This will can also prevent airborne infections from spreading.

  • Antiseptic:
  • We all know someone who is prone to getting random bruises and cuts, and if we don’t, we are them! These cuts are dangerous since they provide a breeding ground to infection causing bacteria. Luckily for them, TTO has come to the rescue.

Mix two drops of oil in any carrier like coconut or almond oil or alow vera gel and apply small quantity of it on the wound. Repeat till scab is formed.

As you can see, TTO is no short of a wondrous oil. How did you use it? Let us know in the comments below!
